Camera (Agent) edge device: overview

Camera (Agent) provides a direct way to connect cameras to cloud video surveillance services. The video surveillance provider determines whether this connection method is available based on the platform configuration and supported use cases.

Camera (Agent) is an IP camera with the Agent software service built into the camera firmware by the manufacturer. It operates as a standalone edge device and connects directly to the video surveillance platform through an encrypted channel. The camera transmits video, audio, and metadata from the user local network without requiring additional gateway devices or intermediate equipment.

Camera (Agent) is designed for sites and scenarios that require a small number of connected cameras. For the end user, it works as a standard IP camera with additional capabilities for platform integration, data processing, event generation, and device management.

Direct camera connection simplifies deployment and reduces the need for additional equipment or specialized technical knowledge. Users can connect cameras to the platform faster and manage video surveillance with minimal configuration.

Supported equipment: the platform provides the best experience with Native Camera (Agent) models. The Native Camera (Agent) is our own edge device, delivering centralized management, seamless onboarding, and support for advanced video surveillance capabilities. Deeply integrated with our video surveillance platform, it provides users with a single unified interface for configuration, firmware updates, camera service management, and access to built-in intelligent features — eliminating the need for third-party software.

For projects with existing camera infrastructure, the platform supports integration with selected camera manufacturers.

Agent service capabilities and functionality

  • Camera integration: the Agent service provides a fast and intuitive process for adding cameras to the video surveillance system. Users can add a Camera (Agent) through the video surveillance application web interface or assign camera activation to a system administrator.

  • Autonomy: direct connection to the platform without intermediate equipment.

  • Remote management: provides remote control of connected cameras, recording settings, and cloud archive storage through the cloud video surveillance platform interface, as well as PTZ control, activation, and configuration of events processed by the built-in camera analytics.

  • Data transmission security: provides end-to-end encryption of the video stream and metadata to protect information transmitted from the camera, ensuring privacy and protection against unauthorized access.

Camera (Agent) use cases

  • Private property: a simple solution for monitoring houses, apartments, and country properties, as well as indoor spaces.

  • Business sector: a scalable solution for offices and retail, enabling fast integration of new cameras without complex infrastructure setup.

  • Urban environment: a cost-effective outdoor surveillance option where the Agent camera connects to the internet to provide secure and uninterrupted monitoring in outdoor locations.

Camera (Agent) management capabilities

Camera (Agent) device management adapts to the following scenarios:

  • Technical specialists and administrators: for details on administrator tools, see the Camera administrator guide documentation section.

  • Video surveillance users: users integrate their Agent cameras into the cloud video surveillance platform independently. For details, see the User guide. Camera (Agent) documentation section.
