An Edge device is a dedicated hardware appliance or embedded software service deployed within the user's local infrastructure. Equipped with specialized firmware, this device acts as an intelligent gateway between local IP cameras and a video surveillance platform: the edge device collects video streams from cameras on the local network, performs initial processing, optimizes traffic based on the available network bandwidth, and securely transmits the data to the video surveillance platform for further processing and storage.
