Access control: cloud-based access management
Access control is a cloud service on the VSaaS platform that provides centralized management of access to a designated area. Administrators can manage the service from each location's interface. The service brings together access equipment management, user access configuration, access settings, and event monitoring in a single interface, regardless of the type or manufacturer of the connected equipment.
Access point: the core concept of Access control
At the foundation of Access control is the Access point – it is a logical instance on the platform that connects a physical access zone on-site with the equipment responsible for controlling entry or exit through that zone. A single location may feature multiple access points, such as those designated for entry, exit, vehicle entrance, or vehicle exit. Access points are categorized into the following types: Entrance, Drive-in, Universal, and Defined (Fixed). This type determines the quantity and combination of connected devices, such as intercoms, BLE readers, and actuators.
Access management is organized around access points rather than individual devices. Equipment, settings, and user access are associated with specific access points, making the system easier to configure, manage, and scale. This approach brings multiple devices into a single access management framework and treats each access point as part of the overall security system.
How it works
When creating an Access point, the administrator selects its type: Entrance, Drive-in, Fixed (Defined), and Universal. Depending on the chosen type, the platform will guide you on which devices and how many can be connected, integrating them into a unified system. Once the devices are added to an access point, they work together as a single access mechanism. All device management and configuration remain within the same access point.
For more information about access point types, their structure, and supported devices, see the Access points: types and connected equipment documentation section.
For detailed instructions on managing access points and adding devices and users, see the Administrator guide. Access point documentation section.
How users get access
Users only need a smartphone with the mobile app to access the area. In the mobile app, an Access point is represented by the location address, the access point name at that location, and the devices associated with that access point that are available to the user.
The administrator associates users with the devices connected to the access point and configures the required access settings. Users can then manage access from the mobile app – for example, open a door through an intercom, use a BLE key, or control available devices from a widget or the Access section.
For more information about access points in the mobile app, see the Access documentation section.
Example. An entrance is equipped with an intercom and a BLE device for keyless door access. To provide residents and their guests with a convenient, modern way to enter the building, the administrator creates an Entry zone access point for the location and names it Entrance No. 1. The administrator then associates devices with the access point: the intercom, which handles calls and communication between residents and visitors, and the BLE device, which allows residents to unlock the door from a smartphone without a physical key.
For the administrator, the access point brings together everything associated with this entrance – connected devices, access settings, and device assignments for users. All this information is managed within a single access point, Entrance No. 1, created for the selected location. This makes the access point easier to configure, manage, and maintain.
For a resident, all that is required is a smartphone with the mobile app and Bluetooth (BLE) enabled. The access point appears in the Access section of the mobile app. The resident sees the location address and Entrance No. 1 under that address. The access point contains the access devices available to the resident, such as the intercom and BLE keys.
The resident can open the door using the intercom or an BLE key. When the resident uses BLE, the smartphone sends a BLE signal to the controller at the entrance. The system controller automatically identifies the smartphone, verifies access, and unlocks the door.
Supported access devices
The VSaaS platform supports a range of access control equipment, including smart intercoms, BLE-based mobile keyless access systems, and compatible actuators. The cloud-based architecture provides centralized management, flexible access configuration, and system scalability.
The platform makes it easy to connect, configure, and use a wide range of equipment for cloud-based access management. For detailed information about each device, see the Supported devices documentation section:
-
Smart intercom: a digital access control system that extends a traditional intercom with multimedia capabilities. It allows residents to unlock doors remotely, see visitors through a video camera, and manage keys from a smartphone.
-
BLE controller: a device that provides keyless access from a smartphone. Installed at the entrance, the BLE controller manages the lock, identifies the user's smartphone, and unlocks the door when the user has access to the entrance.
-
Actuator: a network device that receives commands from the system and controls access mechanisms connected to or built into the device, including electric locks, electromagnetic locks, barriers, gates, turnstiles, and other devices that control entry or vehicle access. Support for this equipment type is planned for upcoming releases.
